I think I’m going to do a little series on food.

I love taking pics of food around the world and I love open markets like the ones in Europe and South America.  They are so raw!!  That’s why I shot these on film.  I love how ‘raw’ of a look they have.  More to come….

Inside the closet of the Hangover House

On one of our escapades, renowned stylist Jim Olarte and I stumbled into the Hangover House one day. The home was still set in the mid 20′th century when it was last in its glory. This was just a snap I took of the inside of one of the closets. Love!

The new outlook for 2012

I was dicking around on the blogs that I usually look at on a daily basis (A Photo Editor, PDN Picture of the day,  Smart Brief, Klout, Empty Kingdom).  I love A Photo Editor because he always has intelligent or thought provoking things to look at and say.

Here is something I read today that I liked.  It is a link to a blog called Burns Auto Parts Consultants and the post is called:

10 Things to do for Your Biz in 2012 (the gloves come off)

If you don’t want to read the whole thing, I’ve cut out the important things.

1) If anyone talks about ROI or value propositions or anything else that smacks of weasel-in-a-suit when it comes to your marketing, run away. All that old shit is dead.

2)Forget about old selling tools like “elevator speeches.” Look, no one gives a shit who you are or what you do when you shill.

3)When meeting someone new, especially a target, after saying that you are a commercial photographer (or whatever), always follow it up with a question (or more than one) about the other person.

4)Fuck SEO.

5)Stop whining

6)Shoot/make art for yourself, as often as you can.

7)Stop doing generic promos. Your promos need to be a reflection of who you are and you are supposed to be.

8)Get out of your office/out from behind your computer and interact with people. Social media is a form of connection but it’s a weak one.

9)Register your damn copyrights.

10)I don’t care what any other consultant or photographer tells you, separate out your Usage Licensing Fee from your Creative (shoot) Fee.

11)Yes, the list of 10 goes to 11… and the last is the most important: be yourself in everything you do.

Big Wave Slideshow: Strands and Salt Creek 1/6/12

Wind blows over the waves at Strands Beach as the first streaks of light rake across the big waves.

I went down to the beach the other day because I heard there was a big swell in.  Down at Strands Beach I saw some huge waves coming in before the light was even hitting them. On the point at Salt Creek I saw some guys starting to go out but didn’t see anyone in the waves till I got down there.  This is a slideshow of what I saw.

I love seeing epic waves here in Orange County.  We don’t get swells like this often but when we do it just makes me want to get out there.  I love hearing the roar of the ocean, the smash of the waves crashing on the sand during a big swell.  I give it up to the guys that paddle out in it.  They have more balls than I do!

Click on the picture for the slideshow.

Email blast off the ground

I sent out the first of many email blasts today.  I scrubbed the list with help for over a month, sent out a test, everything!

I was so stoked!

The stupid hyperlink didn’t work.  Bastard.

Here it is in case you didn’t see.  I’m pretty sure this one works properly.
